Respiratory gymnastics is a complex of breathing exercises

Respiratory gymnastics is a complex of breathing exercises that prevent and treat respiratory failure, helping the body to efficiently use all anatomical and functional mechanisms that oppose its occurrence.

Breathing exercises are used both for diseases of the respiratory system and take part in the performance of exercises for other systems: cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, nervous system. Through respiratory gymnastics, the vital capacity of the lungs, the mobility of the chest and the diaphragm, the elasticity of the lung tissue is improved, the breathing act is optimized, and the supply of oxygen, necessary for the body to perform physical efforts, is improved.

Breathing exercises can be performed in a standing, sitting or lying position and are usually divided into three types - static, which are performed in a stationary state; dynamic - performed together with other exercises and drainage - special breathing movements that help remove sputum and the outflow of exudate from the pleural cavity.

Relaxing poses - reduce chest muscle tension and oxygen consumption. Abdominal-diaphragmatic gymnastics is aimed at strengthening the respiratory muscles, at their ability to change the frequency and depth of breathing, i.e. at the pair of antagonists-diaphragm-abdominal wall. Postural drainage is recommended to allow gravity to assist drainage of secretions toward the mouth. Selective rib gymnastics is localized high-amplitude breathing exercises aimed at moving certain parts of the chest.
